Our interest in the American Staffordshire Terrier began in 2001 when we had the
pleasure of meeting the few breeders that existed in South Australia at the time. We fell
in love with the look and temperament of the breed and soon purchased our first
Amstaff “Bella” and started making plans to expand on our new family.
Our plans soon led us to the purchase of our two beautiful girls “Flame and Misty” and
our little man “Nova”. After interest and kindness from another breeder we were
convinced to enter the show ring and begin to display the quality we were lucky enough
to obtain as purely pet buyers.
We had to learn the ropes together as we were only new to the ring and our dogs were
already almost 12 months with no show lead training. The girls caused all sorts of
problems for us, they performed crocodile rolls and pig roots, but there was always
someone there to laugh with us at the sidelines.
Soon came our first champ show, our first big show that we could gets points for our
dogs, and to our surprise at least one of our girls kept all fours on the ground. Flame
came out, at only 12 months old, and won “Best of Breed” and “Best Open in Group”.
She had beaten the top-winning dog and surprised all of us.
Flame’s achievements began to be a regular occurrence bringing her Australian
championship to us only 5 1/2 months after her first show. Nova too had started to be a
regular achiever gaining his Australian Championship just one week after Flame. Then
Misty followed shortly after, gaining her Australian Championship in just 8 months of
showing. The girls became the top two winning bitches for 2003 with Flame achieving
half way to her grand championship in her first year of showing.
Our winning continued into 2004, although Flame had managed to break all four of her
canines during an attempt to get out of a dog trailer to be with us. Lots of tears were
shed but it didn’t seam to faze a lot of judges as her bite was obviously correct and
could still be easily seen.
We began to travel a lot to find other competition and enter under international judges
so off we went to Melbourne to the Sunbury spring shows to compete under two judges
from the USA. Flame took out “Best of Breed” under both judges beating one of Sydney’
s top winning Grand Champion bitches. Next we went to Sydney for the Amstaff specialty
and spring carnival where Misty took out challenge bitch under a Canadian judge
beating 28 other bitches
Offers were made to us to purchase “Jessie”, a half sister to Flame and Misty, and
“Maxie”, Nova’s mum and a full litter sister to Flame and Misty’s mother, which we
snapped up with little deliberation. The lines we had were obviously doing well and we
would have been fools to miss the opportunity.
Jessie came out to a few shows gaining a couple challenges and a Class in Show. When
we considered mating her we found she had internal problems and could not be safely
bred due to the dog attack she survived at her last home so she was given up as a pet
to live out the rest of her years.
Maxie has been mated to Indy to repeat the mating that made our two girls. We hope to
keep something on from her that can continue the luck we have had in the show ring.
Our first intention was to pass Maxie on to a family member as a pet after a litter but
after spending the first week with her it was impossible to consider giving up such a
lovely girl. She will now live her days out in luxury. She has the run of the house and
spends every night by our side or on the end of the bed.
Our kids have started off the 2005 year well with Flame almost at her Grand
Championship and at the top of the point score for the breed. Misty is running second
for the females in the point score so far and Nova is at number one for the males. We
are even considering going overseas to dual title our dogs if they continue to do so well.
Plans have been made for us to import semen for our girls Flame and Misty. We have
heard in the grapevine that there is more to see in the future of the Khaotic family so
keep in touch to find out what’s happening.
